I have all of Lidia's books, met her at a booksigning, I'm a foodie and a fan of Lidia. This book is growing on me, but at first I wasn't sure how I felt about it. I just made an unlikely side dish--braised celery in a touch of tomato paste & sauce, it was delicious and easy. I like finding new ways to use everyday ingredients. There are some pasta-making ideas, but her other books do that in more depth. At times this doesn't seem like an Italian cookbook b/c beer-braised dishes and spaetzle are some of the recipes, but it's regional to the Alpine region of Italy. If looking to buy your first Lidia book, I'd recommend you try LIDIA'S ITALY or LIDIA'S FAMILY TABLE; but if you have all of her books already, I recommend that you DO get this one too!

I have 3 of her cookbooks and absolutely love them. My husband has loved every single recipe I have tried over the past several months...we visited Italy last summer and fell in love with the country, its people and the food. So simple and so good. None of her recipes are extremely difficult. I have over 300 cookbooks, and I have been going to just hers for many months now. Watch her show, then attempt the latest on my own. Have yet to try making pasta, but will this weekend. Her ingredients are simple, easy to find in the market, or order online. We only use real Italian pasta now...Del Verde is a favorite and travel 1 1/2 hours each way to the nearest Italian market to stock up. Her sage butter is so easy and so good on ravioli, I could go on and on about our favorite recipes. You will not regret buying her cookbooks.
